At the turn of the 20th Century, immigrants coming to America, though not related, often made strong family bonds, as if related by blood.
Stevo Markovich left the immigrant community in Gary, Indiana and returned to New Orleans where he made friends with several people who helped him become a successful hotel owner.
New Orleans is a colorful and exciting place. Creole women, European fisherman and generations of French families all add to the spice of the city.
The bubonic plague comes to New Orleans and makes changes in many people's lives. Stevo moves his niece and her caregiver to another Parish for their safety.
News of the war in Europe has some immigrants wanting to return to the Old Country to fight. Stevo's good friend, Joseph, is interested in returning until he hears a lecture by some German men wanting financial aid for the war.
Amidst these events, Stevo misses the life he left behind in Gary, Indiana. He hatches a plan to bring his friends to New Orleans. Will they join him?

I've followed this author since her first book in this series. Here we are in New Orleans. The setting is described so that you feel you are there. And the story, what a storyteller! She does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life, making most of them likable, and making you want more of their stories.Product details

Destiny Design eBook Rosemary Gard Reviews
In this fifth book of the Destiny series, the author continues to intertwine a seductive storyline with characters who come alive and seem to jump off the page. Once again, the attention to detail and added historical fact makes this book an interesting read in which the reader can vividly envision a time and place as if the author was witness to the era. I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself into this book and recommend it to anyone who likes a good story in which your imagination is guided, by the written word, into a movie mode frame of mind.
Rosemary Gard's works are always intriguing and pulls the reader in.
I'm half Croation so this brought back wonderful memories of my grandparents and my Croatian mother. Ive been twice to Croatia and met relatives and friends. Love it there
